A Charter school is an independently run public school that is granted greater flexibility in its operations, design, and school structure in return for greater accountability for academic performance. Charter schools are schools of choice, allowing parents the opportunity to choose a school based upon what they think will work best for their child and provide an alternative to traditional district schools.

No. Bridge Prep is a public school and is free for all of our students.

Applications for students entering 1st, 2nd and 3rd  grade in the 2020-2021 school year will be accepted on a rolling basis until the close of the admissions period on April 1, 2020. In the event that we receive more applications than available seats at a given grade, a randomized public lottery will be held on April 6, 2020 to assign seats.

No. As a public school, open to all students, our students reflect a diverse mix of academic ability levels. Bridge Prep welcomes all students and families from Staten Island and our instructional and inclusionary school design is beneficial for students at all ability levels.

Bridge Prep was founded to offer a unique educational option for students who are better served outside the traditional school setting, especially those students struggling with dyslexia and other language based learning needs. While we anticipate some students may enter Bridge Prep needing improvements in literacy development, our curriculum and instructional diversity is structured to serve students of all ability levels.

Yes. Bridge Prep will accept applications from any student residing in New York City who will be entering 1st, 2nd or 3rd grades in September 2020. However, should a lottery be necessary for a given grade, preference will be given to students residing on Staten Island. 

If a lottery occurs and a student is not offered a seat at Bridge Prep through the lottery, students will automatically be placed on a waitlist in the order in which they are listed. Should a seat become available at a given grade, students will be called in the order in which they are listed, until all available seats are filled. 

Bridge Prep is located in Building E on the beautiful Michael J Petrides Campus, located at 715 Ocean Terrace in Staten Island’s Sunnyside neighborhood! Families and visitors can enter Bridge Prep directly through the school’s main entrance, which is located in the back of the campus(closer to Renwick Avenue), near the playground area.

School doors open at 7:00 a.m. every day for breakfast, with classes beginning at 8:15 a.m. Dismissal is at 4:00 p.m 3 days per week and at 3:00 p.m two days per week. to allow for ongoing teacher professional development.

Like other public schools, students at Bridge Prep may qualify for busing through the Department of Education’s Office of Pupil Transportation. Transportation eligibility is determined on the basis of the student’s grade level and distance between the student’s residence and the school. If a student does not qualify for a school bus, they may be eligible for a full-fare or half-fare MetroCard. Otherwise, a family member or friend must drop off and pick up their student each day.

Any student receiving special education services that are receiving transportation will remain eligible busing according to their IEP.

Yes. Admitted families will be provided information about our uniform policy and directions on how to purchase the uniform at the time of enrollment.
