A Letter From Our Executive Director

Friends,

As an educator, an advocate and a Staten Islander, I believe that all children have the ability to learn and to be successful and that all children deserve a high- quality educational option that meets their specific needs. Students often require a different, more personalized academic approach in order to reach their maximum potential; this is especially true for many students on Staten Island.

Four years ago, members of our team and I began a historic journey to create Bridge Prep- a specially designed public charter school on Staten Island, one that offers an educational experience that is truly designed with all students in mind, especially those who are not well served by the traditional school structure. We traveled across the country, visiting and meeting with experts and top performing public, private and charter schools in order to seek best practices and observe exemplary school models. As a result of an incredible collaboration between families, advocates, organizations and community leaders, we historically opened our doors this past September!

Our philosophy as a community of learners is predicated on the fact that students learn in different ways and possess differing abilities. The research is clear that explicit and structured language instruction is valuable for all students. Providing students with a caring, supportive and inclusive school community is critical for the success of public education and is embedded in our core. At Bridge Prep, you can expect a school community where all students, families and staff feel valued, safe and respected.

I am reminded daily of the transformational impact our school has for students on Staten Island and am extremely thankful to the many members of our community are instrumental in our success and growth. I encourage you to reach out to me directly for information and ways to get involved at Bridge Prep. I look forward to having you as a part of our Bridge Prep family and am eager to embark on the journey lies ahead!

In solidarity with our students,

Tim Castanza
